Turbo 6 Wash Sulphur Smell

Postby Macca80 » Mon Feb 26, 2024 2:55 pm

Hi All

I'm just starting out in distilling and making my first wash that came with the T500. In the last few day I have noticed a bit of a sulphur smell in the room it's fermenting. Details are as follows

-made mix Wednesday evening
-Sterilised equipment
-mixed in 6kg turbo sugar and water
-added carbon
-added turbo 6 yeast (I Didn't check the temperature, rookie error there)
-added air lock
-temp for the ferment has been between 22-24 degrees and there has been plenty of bubbling on the airlock about 1 every 1-2 seconds
-Noticed sulphur smell on saturday but seems to be a bit less today

Have I done anything wrong? If not is there anything I can do to make sure everything will come out ok? Any advice appreciated.

Cheers
Dan

The only thing you have done wrong is using the Turbo yeast.
That smell is why most people ditch the turbos pretty quick.

That stuff is nasty. Use the turbo to play and practice with the still. Dump it and get on to one of the neutral recipes from the tried and proven section.

TPW is dirt cheap, super simple and tastes 1000% better.
