whats you're water ph?

I just got myself a ph meter and im on tank water so my ph is 7 my mate wants to get into running a few washes so im lending him my pot.... with the hope it will get me off my arse to finally building a bubbler . Anyway i tested his water it was 8.4 hes on scheme i know they add calcium carbonate to scheme sometimes to act as a filter but farrrkk. So just interest whats your local water like?

North Eastern Adelaide depending on time of year in the range 6.7 - 7.4.

8.4 might just be a short term reading btw.

Thanks for the replys guys you got me thinking maybe its because he lives in the middle of the catchment area nothing a bit of citric wont fix

When i first installed my water filter system under my sink i was getting readings of 8-9ph for a few weeks. I emailed the people i bought my filter through and they said it will go down to 7 once the filters were flushed properly which it did.
I think alkaline water is some kinda bullshit health thing that's meant to be better for you :o

Rainwater is probably best if you can get it. As a general rule, it is always just slightly below 7 as it has a minute amount of salt in it from sea water. That's why my shower floor goes slightly blue from the copper being dissolved from the household plumbing.
One of these days I'll get a bag of marble chips to hang in my tanks to take them a little bit above 7. :confusion-waiting:
