ok I was serious about seeing if I can hook my LPG Oxy set , oxygen regulator to fittings I could connect to the compressor . Turns out I don't have the right fittings around here so I'd have to buy some . Just before I do has anyone tried this and knows it won't work ,hate wasting money on shit I can't use

Hello all,

More homework done to clear things up a little.

The Silbraze no flux 15% rods are expensive. Best i could get them for with a borrowed trade cash account was $24.75 for 750mm x 2.5mm. I'm told by actrol they are great but too dear for my pockets given I've a pile to finish off.

http://www.actrol.com.au/sb.nsf/SearchPrices?OpenForm

KK so of all places found 15% Consolidated Alloys rods at Bunnings $4 cheaper than anywhere else $14.96 for 750mm x 2.4mm @15%. Brown coloured tagged rods.

The Berzomatic TS8000 and TS4000 guns I notice new packaging now have a recommendation for brazing only to 1 inch.

Got a new design pot hybrid that will get the 15% treatment this arvo...looking forward to it.

Still looking for a Oxy/LPG brand set recommendation if any one has one.

G'day BT1,

Get the product sheet for those 15% rods and make sure there is no cadmium in the rods. A lot of rods do contain cadmium instead of lead.

Been a couple of posts on here about dangers of working with cadmium containing brazing rods, but I don't feel that it has the same publicity as lead dangers.

Cheers, Heffers

EDIT: These rods look ok - contain only silver, copper and phosphorus. http://www.cagroup.com.au/files/Brazing-Alloys-MSDS.pdf

Hello all,

just finished 2 tricky bits as a test in 2" using the 15% rods and Mapp...it flows beautifully and it's taking up spans over 1.5mm for filling as well... what a relief after using those bloody 2% rods for years...it a pleasure to work again.

The 45% rod is like butter...I can't believe how easy it is...

Perhaps those 6+ part builds will be 5+ with the completion of a new Hybrid pot design this arvo...

thanks all...back on track

A happy bt1

Well I just tried hooking up the compressor to a LPG/oxy colt sort of works . The flame gets hot enough to braze with for sure turned copper red hot in no time , the problem is the flame tends to blow it self out easily . it works fine while you are working close up on something but as soon as you take the flame off the job it blows out . I might play around with the settings a bit more before I decide if this is to much of a pain to use

If you have a spare nozzle or tip try to counter sink or concave the hole slightly.
Apparently this can help....
