pop rivets

I am starting to build something (undecided) to distill neutrals, l am looking at options to retrain my ss cooking pot lid during a run, I found some info on net about ss sealed pop rivets which are claimed to be water and vapour proof, I was wondering if they would be ok to attach latchs to the side of my pot to hold down the lid, has anyone used these for same or simular situation or have any comments?, :think: It does seems less complicated and more cost effective to use this option

I have found some ss latchs at a marine shop that can be made to work, the edge rim of my lid in flat and level but the underside of the pot edge is curved which prevents the use of peg or clip arrangments

I cant post any pics yet as I am working away from home, I am not due home for another 16 days but hopfully the recent rain may change that. I will post a pic at first chance.

Basically if it's food grade SS it'll be ok, not real certain on SS but think it should be grade 304 or 316 & you'll be right.

Another option would be using blind copper rivets, or get friendly with someone who has a TIG welder :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Just checked my assortment of ss rivets in the shed,all 304,so they'll be fine. I'd still put a smear of silicon between the latch and the boiler just to make sure it is sealed properly,be nothin worse than getting it all together and find there is a slight leak :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Specially when it's an internal one in a shotgun condenser :angry-banghead:

I think mcstill already provided the solution. Find a welder. There's lots around and you could probably barter with a couple of bottles of grog
