Running reflux column with or without packing

Postby grasmere » Fri Aug 30, 2019 5:02 pm

I have search quite a bit in the Newbies section for this topic, but I cannot find guidelines on when to use or not packing for distilling
I would appreciate replies

If you want reflux you use packing .
If your running in pot mode (if it can) no packing
Note: A T500 should never ever be run as a pot still

Thanks for the reply. The reason I have posted is because I have seen recommendation for removing packing in the reflux column.
I have a 35 Ltr Brewzilla foe Pot and reflux and so would I need to remove reflux packing for any reason.

If it is a reflux/pot combo still you need to remove the packing so it runs as a pot still. If you leave the packing material in it will run as a reflux still and strip the flavour..

I understand, the removal of the packing in the reflux column in previous posts was referring to a boiler doing two jobs. As I have 2 separate columns it doesn't apply
Thank you for the responses
