30 litre "Beer Me" boiler

Postby Sideboob » Wed Dec 18, 2019 2:56 pm

Hi Guys,
I purchased a pure distilling reflux still back in May this year, which came with a "Beer Me" 30lt boiler.
The last couple of runs I have noticed the cord and plug getting quite warm and it has me a little concerned.
I contacted the seller from EBay but have not had any response so far.
Is this normal?

Hi Sideboob. I run the same rig. The lead does get a little warm but is not a major concern. 2000w is a fair amount of grunt running through the lead. I run mine through a voltage controller and that lead also gets a bit warm. May be worth getting it checked out by a sparky if it is hotter than normal.

Not sure how long the lead is on those things but if it is fairly long just make sure you don't have it wound up in a coil when your running otherwise it will get even hotter and possibly catch fire.

This also might be a component choice manufacturing issue.
If they have only use light duty cable that would handle what they designed it for (however long it take to make a beer) then it may not handle the long runs we do.

The plug and lead is going to warm up as its directly connected to the heating element for hours and going to conduct the heat if you look at the plug its slotted to stop the use of computer type lead as its heat rated and made of different material so less likely to burn .

I always pick the coolest days to do a run

Alternatively can anyone recommend a 30ltr boiler that does not get the heating up cord?

I contacted Pure Distilling & they said they had not heard of any others with the issue and they sent me a new boiler free of charge. Great service :handgestures-thumbupleft:
