Not a korny keg

Hey guys not sure if anybody has seen these 30 litre kegs.
My local publican gave it to me and it is still pressurised. Does anybody firstly know if they can be depressurised at home without specialist equipment. The opening on the top looks like a 2 inch locking ring to me so i am figuring I can just put a 2 inch tap on it and it will be good for storage.

Any advice will be most welcomed

As best I can work out it is a Belfa slim keg.

Still no idea what I should be doing lol, just know what it is called now

Sorry cant help removing the spear but...........
Make sure your face is over the top when you push the middle down and your mouth is open :laughing-rolling:
Whats the old saying ?
Open your mouth and close your eyes and you will get a big surprise :music-deathmetal:

Wellsy I reckon if you press down on that centre bung it will release the pressure and don't wear your Sunday best either :laughing-rolling:

Now the best use for that keg mate is make a thumper for your milk can boiler :laughing-rolling: that's only if you have the skill :laughing-rolling: and if it's all too hard just send it over to me :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

Thanks Howard

Definitely looks like an A type.

I tried with my thumb but could not get the valve to move. Looks like I just need to unscrew it slowly. If I follow the video I can even do it in my thongs lol.

Bryan and Stig are so full of ideas , or am I just confused and they are simply full of it :laughing-rolling:

Thanks for the advice guys it is much appreciated :text-thankyoublue:

safety thongs.jpg

you'll be fine, get a pair of these, put your best suit on and make sure your chin is over the spear as you unscrew.
then if the spear comes out too fast, your chin will stop the spear damaging the roof.
don't forget the safety glasses, they are obviously designed to stop a stainless steel spear at 100kph :))

lay the keg on it's side

Dont unscrew while pressurized :naughty: press the ball in centre in somehow first. Unless you fancy getting speared..

What I did with my 50 litre kegs was I made up a tool similar to the tool used for flaring by simply oxy cutting the frame and drill then tapping a thread so some all thread could put pressure on the spear to release the pressure. Worked a treat and I didn't even get wet :happy-partydance: Now I'm sure Wellsy could come up something similar but it may be beyond a Victorian to think that far :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: afterall most of them are collingwood supporters :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

Use a pair of pliers and push hard to release pressure, under no circumstance undo / unscrew it until pressure is let go. Beer everywhere if your really lucky.

Thanks guys
In the YouTube clip it looks like he just breaks the seal undoing the spear and waits for the pressure to disappear before releasing the spear. I will try using something to press the centre pin and release the before undoing it

Well that did not take as long as I thought.

Now to find an attachment I can use as a tap, might have to browse the 5 star store.

For those super observant amongst you I hope you noticed I actually went for the next level safety boots.

Thanks again guys, I ended up following the video Howard posted, very slowly and the hardest part was actually extracting the spear after keg was depressurised

Navajo Indian moccasin safety boots, thats a new one :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:
So, did you want to use the 2" top to fill and put a valve in the bottom ?
Or add a tap to the 2" top ?

I think the simplest solution will be to just put a tap on the top.

If I am going to use it for long term ageing I think a 2 inch blank will work perfectly until it is time to extract the contents.

With no way of getting to the inside of it I can see a way of fitting a tap to the bottom or side

I will put some water in it later and see how the bank and 2 inch clamp works at sealing it. I think the smooth sided glass seal would work a treat with the keg and blank to seal it off.

Ok , so yes use the 2” end cap, flat sided seal and clamp .
Then all you’ll need when the time comes is a 2” valve , lay the keg on its side and your ready to pour :handgestures-thumbupleft:

You could even whack the 2” valve on there now , it will seal and be able to open when you want to fill.

You could get Bryan to build you an off grid cradle on a swivel for it, using leather belts to hold it in place , you would have the bum in the air to pour and the valve in the air to fill, like a seesaw arrangement

Geez Stig you know you are in dangerous waters when you combine , Bryan, leather straps, and bum in the air , all I. The one statement lol. I was concerned that topic could have headed south very quickly :laughing-rolling:

Now I just have to see if I can pinch, I mean get gifted , another. I will ask when he is in the right frame of mind
