Pure Distilling Starter Kit - Carbon Filter usage

Hi Everyone,

I got myself a Pure Distilling Reflux Still starter kit.
It includes the bucket filtering system for the finishing.
Advice here is that this isn't necessary but it came with 3 carbon filters so thought I might as well use them.
Is this carbon filter a single use only item or can you use it multiple times.

Cheers
Andrew

Is the filter plastic or stainless? Plastic is not good. Usually only filter neutral.
Did you do cuts when you distilled it?

It's a stainless steel metal rod with a hole in it that allows the liquid to go through the carbon block

No cuts, the Youtube video says to fill the top 10L bucket with 93% ABV from the reflux still.
Then water down to 40%, remove the bung and allow it to pass through the filter into the bottom bucket.

Do you have a pot and a reflux still?
Is this the whiskey run? no curs prob explains why it tastes off.

Might be better off getting your head around the cuts process then re run it doing the run using cuts. As a bonus it would then be a higher proof so you can age it also.

Did you at least do a fores cut?

To filter fill it with 40% then just let it drip out. You will lose some good flavour also alongbwith the manky ntails.
You can filter out tails but you cant filter out heads as they are lighter/thinner substances.

Cuts are not that hard discard fores cut then collect in small amounts, per jar 150ish ml, then air overnight. Go back next day smell taste the jars keep the good ones discard the bad. Dont drink while doing cuts or you will most likely do a crap job Heads tastes like solvent tails kinda tastes like wet cardboard or like the smell of a wet dog.
Best of luck

Edit added cuts link.

I have a pot still and a reflux still.
Was using the Pot for the whiskey run and doing the cuts at every 300ml.
Yep I always discard the first 150ml on both.
I only use the carbon filter for the reflux still was just wondering if I could use it multiple times.
Appreciate the tips.

Cant really help with that i started with a pot did cuts and have since moved to a bubbler and have never filtered. Besides one experiment.

Quick search bought up this thread http://aussiedistiller.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=9648
Has some good info.

Also the "ad search" works much better then the search box up top.

The carbon filters supplied with the kits are single use.
