Sacrificial

How much of the wash should I use for a sacrificial run?

I have a 25 litre wash fermenting at the moment and should be ready to distill soon....I hope.

I need to clean 2 still heads....
1) A brand new Alcoengine Pot Still,
2) An old Pure Distilling reflux still that is still clean. (Not used for 10 years)

My plan is to use 12 litres in the boiler for each still.
Discard the first 250mL from each run and keep the rest as hooch.
Why waste a full 24 litres?

I know that a lot of folk here build their own still using flux and solder warranting a vinegar run to clean it.

I don't have the flux/solder issue so a quick sacrificial run should do the job...I think (hope).

It does, but a vinegar run is cheap and does a really good job.
You probably want your still running for around an hour either way.

Don’t keep anything .
There’s a reason it’s called sacrificial run
