I'm about to start a new sugar wash that calls for 6.3 kg of sugar for a total of 28 litres. I'm working off the info from George of Barley & Hops where he says to use 2lb (907g) of sugar for every gallon (4L) of water.
I want to use dextrose instead of sugar.
Would 7 kg of dextrose be enough for a 28 litre wash?
Add a bit of DAP, a pinch of epsom salts, 1 or 2 multivitamin tablets, some Still Spirits nutrient and 70g of bakers yeast.
Be easy on me....I'm still learning.

Why go to all that trouble ?
Whack on a TPW or Weet-Bix or something MUCH simpler

Be careful with george, some good info, but also some garbage

All the different sugar washes have a slightly different flavour or mouth feel, as an example i know of one guy who uses tpw for gin, but prefers a wheat based one for other neutral based recipes.Try them all.

What you listed is over kill in nutrients and yeast, A sugar ratio of 1kg per 4-5l is what i use. Don't try for a 10% wash when making neutral, the last 2% generally will cause unwanted flavour. In the newbie's section the is a calculator page, it will help you work out an appropriate amount of sugar to use.

Dextrose is great for beer, but 99.9% of people won't pick a difference after its been through a still

7kg would probably stress the yeast and probably give you off-flavours at over 16% ABV.
the suggested amount of sugar can be seen in the 'tried and proven' section for FFV/TPW etc.
these are around the 4.5-5kg of sugar, giving you about <>10% ABV of good clean wash with no need to filter.
just follow the nutrients and yeast amount listed in those recipes.

Dopey me forgot to research that a US gallon is 3.78L not 4L. Gotta recalculate.

Anyhow, it's a simple sugar wash with a few nutrients added. Not much trouble at all. It's simpler than a Weet-Bix wash as you don't have to boil/simmer the cereal for a length of time. By the time a Weet-Bix wash is ready, a sugar wash is already fermenting.

I'm not too keen on a TPW as I have read that the tomato flavour comes through to the end product.
Will try the cornflakes/weetbix washes after a few sugar washes to use up the dextrose.

Just found those Wash Calculators. Good stuff.

So, if a recipe calls for 5kg of sugar, how much dextrose would I need to get the same result/ABV?

Is there a reason you want to use dextrose instead of sugar. I used dextrose when I started because that was what the turbo stuff was and I didn’t know any better. Get much better results now using the tried and proven recipes here using plain old sugar, and much cheaper too. I use tffv for my neutral. Easy quick and always good.

The reason is that I have about 65kg of the stuff.
I bought so much of it believing it gave a cleaner finish to a sugar wash distill.

No....dextrose is not 'turbo stuff'. It is a corn sugar.
You are probably thinking of Turbo Sugar which is a blend of dextrose, sugar and carbon.
Sure, dextrose is a bit more expensive than sugar but I'm not striving to make the cheapest bottle of hooch I can.

Yes, I think I will try different variations.
Only one way to find out....try 'em all.
1 wash with sugar and 1 wash with dextrose....same quantities etc.
