Stalled TPW

Hey all.
What do you guys do to rectify a stalled TPW. Low night temps & warm day temps resulted in good fermentation activity during the day but no activity at night. It's stalled out at 1.018 from 1.070.
Should I stir it all up & see if it kicks back in or stir it up & add some more yeast to get it to final? It's a 200lt wash.

I wouldn't bother adding more yeast. If it got going initially it will have enough in it already. They just need to be woken up.

Check the water chemistry, what are your readings ?

How long has it been going for ?

If they are ok, then it might need to be aerated and warmed up.

Bluc beat me to it :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Thanks guys.
I will give it some aeration & see how it goes.

I've hit the wash with a few minutes of pure oxygen. It's sitting at about 1.016. If no change in a few days, I'll let it clear & just run it. Just have to accept a lower yield this time round. It's the first time I've struck a stalled ferment.

Oxegyn helps at start of ferment not during...
Prob is with inactivity the yeadt floculate fall out of suspension to bottom of fermenter. Idea is not to add o2 but to get the yeadt back up into the wash to process the sugar..

I've had 2 stalled washes recently.
When I checked the PH, it was low.
So I threw in a bit of bicarb soda and after about 1 hour it was up and running again.

pH is low, under 4.
What did you bring it up to?

Crusty maybe it's time to go have top feed of oysters mate so you can keep the shells for PH buffering :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Don't know. Didn't check. Was annoyed.
Used about 1 teaspoon and a quick stir just on top.
A few days later fermented to 0.994 - 0.992.

Will be using oyster shells from now on for ALL ferments.
Ordered 1 dozen large oysters for $24 and have to find a way to make them palatable.
Also found a place in OZ that actually sells sterilised oyster shells as course grit.
Only problem is that it's a 20kg bag.
Price is OK at $32.16 + $6.83 postage.
Petstation, Albury, NSW.

Cheers,

Chicken grit from pet store (CaCO3). When I ran WPOSW, by default I would add a tablespoon into the mix to keep things nice and balanced... Never had a stall.

Thanks guys.
My stalled TPW is off & running again. After testing the pH, it was low at 3.8 so I added some bicarb soda to get it to about 5.3. I also sprinkled a bit more yeast on top to eat the rest of that residual sugar. I'm pretty sure it was purely the cold night temps here that caused it to stall out, probably prematurely killing the yeast in an acid environment. It's never happened to me before & this is a 200lt wash with no temp control. Hoping it'll hit final gravity in a few days.
