4" sight glass still

Hey guys.
Just after some clarification on bubble plate installation using 4" sight glasses. Do the bubble cap plates sit inside the sight glass or should they be installed between the ferrules of the sight glass above it. The same as the sight glass tee's. Pictures of your sight glass still with plates installed would be awesome.
Cheers

Wellsy is your man.

I have the bubble tees and the plates sit inside the tees and are sealed tight by the gaskets.

Thanks mate.
I've got 5 Tee's too & the plate goes on, gasket on then tee on top. I'm not sure if the sight glasses are the same configuration, or run with the plates actually inside the sight glasses. At the moment, I have placed the plate inside the tee, directly on the steel rim, gasket over that then sight glass fits between the bottom & top seal. Seems to me this is the correct way to install them. If you placed the plate between the sight glasses, in the ferrules, the plates look too low for the glass.

The Visualiser has plate-specific seals that fit in-between the glass tubes, in place of regular tri clamp seals. Probably same for your T pieces.

That's initially how I thought they would go but everyone seems to be running them like this.
Around 3:50 into the clip. I've run it as you have yours but the plates look way too low in the sight glass. I have mine sitting where your top seal is, then that seal goes over the plate allowing the sight glass to slip into that grooved seal, top & bottom.

You will notice there is a specific seal used for the plates. I put the standard seal there to show the difference. The next glass simply sits over the top and the clamp goes where the seal is. Yell out if it does not make sense and I will do some more pics mate. I know when I got mine I called Andrew and asked if I had to pull the glass housing apart to put the plates inside lol so you are not alone in being confused. The pics also answer the question about cleaning lol

That is the same configuration as using the sight glass tee's on the Neutralizer & I have run the still that way but the plates sit very low in the sight glass.
In saying that though, the still ran perfectly & pulled a smidge over 95%.
Watching a few video's on youtube, it appears most people I can find are running the plates actually inside the sight glass.

That would be a pain in the butt to setup. I had one of mine start to leak and trying to get the same tension on all nuts was time consuming to say the least

I sometimes just leave mine in full reflux all day just so 8 can watch it :laughing-rolling:

Your spot on about getting the tension right on all nuts but I finally worked out there is a way of doing it quickly.
I like the sight glasses better than the tees. A lot more to see what's going on.

I have to say a tape measure is working just dandy for me currently, calipers would be cool on that short distance

Next time you have it apart, make sure you clean inside the seal and the edge of the plate well too.

My eyes are too cock eyed to read fine measurements so I went with an icy pole stick that was the correct length.

Mind you I had to eat 25 icy poles before I got the cut right lol
