Expected Yield

He guys.
I seen on here somewhere someone posted how to work out approximate yield from a stripped wash when doing a spirit run.
It was a calculation @100% abv so you could approximate what you'd get doing the run. I've searched everywhere but can't find it. Anyone point me in the right direction.
Cheers

I just measure the ABV and divide that by the volume and the final figure is pretty close to the output.

Thanks mate.
I've collected 29 x 300ml jars from a 50-60lt stripped wash neutral & still sitting strong @95%. No sign of tails just yet I don't think. Just wondering when tails will kick in if not already.

Thank you.
I'm on jar 38 x 300ml now & I'm still just a smidgen under 95% but bottom sight glass is showing signs of condensation, sight glass 2 is still crystal clear. I'm just going to collect jar 40 then close off the RC & run it down to 20%. I'll be reusing the feints next run anyway if I've screwed up by shutting it down a tad early.
Boiler temp now at 74 from 70 so I think I'm into tails now.

I would think your boiler temp gauge is inaccurate if you were getting product when you boiler was at 70 degrees mate.

Or maybe I have misunderstood which is not unusual for me

It's a 100lt milk can boiler from 5 star. Not sure of accuracy but it was producing product @70deg. Low wines in the boiler.

If you look in the newbie section there is a topic called calculator. There is one in there where you put the volume and abv of the wash as well as the abv of the output and it will give you volumes.

Thanks Wellsy.
That calculator is pretty spot on with my collected volume.

Always nice to be able to confirm you are on the right path hey :)

Absolutely.
A bit weird though that my temp gauge was reading 70deg or so.

I made the assumption ( always dangerous ) that the gauge was in the boiler near the wash.

It does not really matter where it is, as over time you get some consistency and some expected temp points for things to happen. Every still and run is different and that is all Paton learning what your still likes.

It was a pretty smooth run but a long one. I ended up keeping 40 x 300ml jars to taste before closing the RC & running the rest to a feints keg. One day I hope to be able to decipher heads, hearts & tails straight from the still but that's going to be a while off yet. Sampling the cuts jars is quite challenging for me & diluted, which is supposed to make it easier is not the case for me. I can tell more easily what's in & what's out at the higher abv so maybe on the path for doing cuts without jars eventually. After tasting & feeling a little light headed, I ended up with 6.4lt @94% & cut down to 40%, I ended up with just over 15lt of neutral. Pretty sure I've made good cuts as I avoided Louche this time round by mistakenly dipping slightly into the tails. Not this time though, crystal clear @40% & I'm pretty sure we'll be enjoying some mixers over Christmas.

It does get easier with practise mate. Also 24 hours of airing makes a big difference.
Mark where your cuts would be as you go and then compare where they are after 24 hours.

Cheers mate.
I did cover the jars with paper towel for 24hrs & then did my cuts.
I'm pretty happy with what I kept in & let go. I used to filter my neutral but I don't think I will this time. They taste pretty darn good.
