Hi Experts,
Just wondering if is possible to identify the level of toast visually for Oak dominoes? I have some French medium, American medium and American heavy toasted dominoes in separate bags. They are labelled but the American medium looks as dark as the American heavy and both are more dark than the French medium. Pretty new to oak so want your advice as to whether a bag has been mislabeled?

Hi C
Sorry but there is no really easy visual way to tell the 2 apart . It becomes apparent when you add them to grog.
The French is a lightest colored wood to begin with.
Sorry it’s not much help , I’ve been there myself.
Cheers
Andrew

Thanks for getting back so quick. I'm currently soaking 2 of each Domino in 2L each of ujssm based spirit @60%. I'll see if I can tell a difference between the three. I'll do a search to see if there are flavour descriptors for each of the woods/toast levels.
Cheers

Update: After a month in spirit and after sinking the dominoes are noticeably different. The dark toast is much darker than the medium toast domino.
