Do i still need a thermometer to do a strip

Postby Linny » Sun Oct 28, 2012 1:07 pm

Do i still need a thermometer to do a strip ? , not everything has arrived yet, my wash is finished. i would really like to strip it this weekend so i can start a TPW since i only have the one fermenter. i want to strip my 25L then once everything arrives do strip the TPW and give a final run to everything.

I really need someone to tell me if this is a bad idea, cuz couriosity will get the better of me lol ;-)

Well i just ran my first ever wash in a small 5l Reflux , still have about 20 L to go through. since im stripping with out a thermometer i just tossed the first 50ml and then ran it till i could hardly stand the smell...

As it was running i was doing 100ml cuts (smelling) practicing for the final run - which will probably be next week
I can definately tell the difference between start of the heads , hearts and tails.... i dont think i got much out of the tails (100ml ???)

My still took about 35 min to kick off , then i finished it up at about 1:40 .... if im stripping , how far into the tails do you go ?
