Still theory and design

Postby Lupus » Sun Oct 28, 2012 4:53 pm

Hey guys,
I know a lot of guys on here are avidly slogging away on your own builds and designs.

Anyone got any pointers for me to read up on
- still designs
- still components and what they do and why?
- theory behind the effects of changing the variables in still design (eg the effects of changing the size of a condenser, or the angle of the condenser

Either books or links are okay

Thanks

Pretty sure you'll find a fair bit of info you're looking for in the library mate :-B

amphora society have a book called compleat distiller cant recommend it highly enough. Its $25.00 but if that scares you this hobby aint for you lol. Of course the information is all for free but I can tell you from experience theres alot to take in. Puting the finishing touches on my first project... starting my new project... designing my next project... considering shares in BHP.

Vooharmy,
Thanks for the pointer. I am most definitely going to pick a copy of The Complete Distiller up. Just needed a pointer in the right direction.

There most definitely a lot to pick up. And trying to learn off the the forums just makes it worse. Without some degree of the basics, it just makes it more confusing. Not sure if I am up to fabrication, but at least a basic understanding of design will guide my journey :)

Still theory and design

Vooharmy,
Why gas?

I am curious to see how each person made the choice. Truth be told, I am currently leaning towards electrics. My personal reason, naked flame and alcohol vapours scare me. Plus, I live in an old Queenslander, made pretty much entirely of wood and tin :)

IMHO electric is the only way to got, sure it might be a little more difficult to set up but it's well worth it in the long run.

I was a gas user for years, never even thought of going back ;-)

Crow,
I am aware of the library and picked it up to skim through after vooharmy suggested it. Thanks to the forum for keeping that resource open for us all

Will still probably pick up a dead tree version as I don't always have a computer or net access, so a hard copy will help :)

Oh sorry just the way you guys were chatting I thought yaz didn't take a look. A lot of ppl went to the trouble to research and pick out the most relevant literature for all you guys to use, i can understand you wanting ink and paper but there is an enormous wealth of information there, may as well utilize it
