"Lead Free" Brass Needle Valves

Postby rustee » Wed Oct 31, 2012 11:28 am

Has anyone used these needle valves from Andersons metals (Part # 759106-06). The spec sheet says they're "lead free compliant". Would they be suitable as an interim measure? I will probable fork out for SS ones later on?

Works here.

You may find there lead free means that there is only a small amount so it's ok for potable applications.

Up to you wether you deem it safe. I would use it as I would use potable ones from here but others wouldn't.

All up to you if your that concerned dish out for a ss one.

Ok , Well there is pretty much no such thing as lead free brass and lead free simply means level of lead at or lower than considered safe for potable water. 3 things : the amount of lead in this stuff is normally quite low, generally less than 6% . the other point to make is we don't want them for cold potable water do we, we need to use them to regulate highly sovent hot ethanol. ok last point : yes if the brass is say 3% lead then you need to thing about what percentage of that 3% of lead is in contact with ya likker , (wont be too much) and given there is not and endless supply of lead on the surface one can assume it will be mostly removed in the cleaning run. Of cause this still always boils down to your choice and what sort of risk you are comfortable. If your going to umm and er sound like ya not to comfortable with it but when talking about a low risk like this its very hard for anyone to tell you what to do.
These are the facts/risks ect Weigh them against the costs ect and its your choice ;-)

Thanks for the advice. I have ordered a couple and i will see how they go. Youre right croweater "Lead Free" doesnt mean No Lead. The term stems from California Lead Law AB1953. See link
http://info.sen.ca.gov/pub/05-06/bill/a ... tered.html :geek:

They are only supposed to have a maximum of 0.25% of lead on the wetted surfaces. Pretty minimal. I will probably pickle the suckers and give them a go. :shifty:
