I think ive made a mistake

Postby Linny » Wed Oct 31, 2012 6:57 pm

I think ive made a mistake.... this whole time i have been collecting a strip run from my wash , which i finally finished today :handgestures-thumbupleft:
But i think ive cut ALOT of the tails out on everysingle run, trying to understand and read alot, what temp do you guys usually finish your strip run at ? because im sure i read that a strip run is somewhere 40-50% ??? when i tested mine it was at 70%. which made me think that i have cut short the tails ...by alot! :angry-banghead:
correct me if im wrong but shouldnt i be aiming for about 95* just under the boiling temp of water to make sure i get everything on a strip run ? or is my thinking flawed....

On my pot still I go up to 98degrees which is down to about 20%abv.

You might have lost a bit of spirit, but you learn by doing :handgestures-thumbupleft:

That's the beauty of TPW...you made a mistake and lost a lil alcohol...Cost you maybe 1 or 2 dollars.

Owell. It's annoying but lesson learnt.... I ended up with pretty much 3 litres at 70 % out of a 25 Litre wash. What was annoying that I also cut short on the use of the dex by 2 kg... So I should be happy that I got something lol

So you'll end up with 5.25L of 40% - good enough :handgestures-thumbupleft:
Also, just go with plain sugar for TPW - doesn't really need dex and any more 'learning experiences' will cost you a bit less :p

When i'm stripping with the T500 (of which i've swapped out all the plastic) i turn off when the temp gets to 98-99

Yeah put it away for awhile works well :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: ya can put some oak sticks in and this will give you a wood aged flavour. If I have something that is a bit harsh I sometimes put a cap of maple syrup (real stuff not imitation shit) in to smooth it out, works a treat ;-)

bud you can distress age and that is a short cut, do the things I said and heat the spirit by placing the bottle in hot water you can use to microwave but be a bet sensible ethanol boils at 68 degress so 30 seconds would be about as far as I'd push it. I got some other stuff on distress aging here somewhere see if I can find it and get back to you on it ;-)
