The finer points

Postby dc13931 » Wed Oct 31, 2012 7:43 pm

G'day all,

A couple of little questions, firstly, would a couple of SS scrubbers sitting in the boiler be an effective method of reducing the chance of puking?

Also what method does everyone employ to keep their packing in?

Cheers,

Daniel

The scrubbers in the boiler will help prevent surging but probably not for puking  Try a distillers conditioner or butter/oil.

I keep my packing in with a perforated plate with large holes soldered into the bottom of the column and another half way up. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

From my understanding a surging boil will fuck with your output, ie speeding up and slowing down, adding boiling chips will reduce this.

Puking is foaming up of the wash and you end up with cloudy, shit spirit.

And yes take the heat off to let settle.

Go read and do some research!!
JJ, if you have another container rack into that to get it off the yeast cake. I usually through in 2 tbs of gelitene dissolved in 200 mls of warm water. The gelitene attaches itself to solids and sinks. The colder the spot the better just don't freeze. Leave it there for a few days and watch it settle again. I try not to move it from it's " final resting spot" when I rack to my cooker.
That's my ritual

Happy brewing

I understand kimbo. Was JJ. Gets my goat that experience distillers say that.
