Garden hose inside of still

Postby Johnboy1234 » Mon Oct 24, 2011 2:21 pm

My little 3 year old boy put about 12 inches of garden hose inside my still when I wasn't looking and I brewed up a batch with the hose inside the still. I only discovered it when I cleaned the still out the next day. Will it be SAFE to drink it or not, we already have drunk a bottle the 1st night it was brewed and haven't felt sick or anything.........Just wondering if it will be OK to drink the rest? Such a huge waste if it isn't safe.

In the boiler where you pour all the wash.

hmmmm

well thats better than in the still head... still hard to say what may have come over

tough call and you have to weigh up the risks i kind of doubt it would kill you but you would be likely to be getting a little extra i think ?

how did the hose look when you pulled it out?

The hose was all intact but very faded.
The booze tastes the same as usual, no rubber flavour.

Also I run it through an ezy flow carbon filter.

Not sure I'd want to drink it, but if it's all you've got it's up to you I guess.

You could always eat the hose instead :laughing-rolling:

Yea its all Ive got and it doesn't taste any different.
I'm drinking it now and starting to feel a little rubbery lol
Lesson learnt, always check the inside of your still before distilling, ya never know what's gonna sneak in there. I guess I am lucky I am not in Aus, it could of been a brown snake instead of a piece of hose, and theres no way I would drink that.

No offense but I would rather drink brown snake booze than rubber hose booze any day.
Dont think I would be drinking it, sorry.

I'm with Andy - I'd drink brown snake booze over hose booze... But I'm guessing you made neutral, and if you're collecting at a high rate then by-products would be at a minimum right? And then you're carbon filtering on top of that, so...

Maybe you could give it away as gifts?

Its not like the hose has been submerged in 95% alc for days it would only have been boiled.

You could probably soak it in high strength alc and it might taste like shit but I doub't it would be all that toxic. If you couldn't taste it I wouldn't be too worried.

People are very risk adverse these days ;)

And maybe there might be a market for Snake Vodka?

They are big on sticking all sorts of critters into the local booze in some places Maheel. I stopped to look at a road side stall selling the snake and scorpion variety once in the north of Thailand. The bloke behind the counter wanted to give me a sample. I said :eusa-snooty: :eusa-snooty: :eusa-snooty: The sample bottle in question was only half full...the snake was starting to decompose giving the spirit a nice oaked look :puke-huge: We did end up buying a bottle of his finest Strawberry flavored booze which wasn't to bad all things considered....but I do remember having a vicious hangover the next day...I dont thing they worry to much about heads cuts

Thanks for that answer, it was the one I was hoping for, so I will go with that one.
LOL @ Nardy for "Maybe you could give it away as gifts?" that thought did cross my mind :shhh:
Don't reckon drinking distilled brown snake poison would be safer than a bit of garden hose.
Thanks everyone for all your help and amusing suggestions.

Apparently in some places they believe you will have the attributes of what you drink... so snakes and tigers and scorpions are all cool things.... I wonder what that makes you if you drink garden hose :)
