Getting wash from fermenter to still

Hey just wondering how you guys get your wash from the fermenter to the still for running?

ATM in scooping it out with a small saucepan which takes ages

I was thinking of getting a pump of some sort but thought I'd ask here first

I just siphon mine mate. As long as the fermenter is a bit higher than the boiler just stick a hose in the wash and suck!

Seems to be a common theme of pumps which I what I was thinking as getting 60L of wash higher then the boiler seems like very hard work

Put your fermenter on something high when it's empty (milk crates etc) then fill when it's up there so you don't have to lift, then siphon into boiler ;-)

I only use 25ltr fermenters and they have a hole oppisite the tap on the inside. I jammed a 3/4 90 degree copper fitting in and when it comes to drain discharge the sedement into a jar and let the rest drain out from the short hose i attached to the tap into the chicken leg boiler on wheels :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I use a pump also, home brew "little brown pump" will find out how it handles grain washs filtered through a fermenter bazooka in day or two..

Lift the fermenter up onto a bench and drain via gravity
I only do 50L batches, tho

my fermenters sit on benches and tables. no lifting for me i just use the automatic siphon and gravity does it for me. no more lifting here :-B

+1 on the syphon method. I do washes in 30l fermenters up on a bench. Syphon as part of the racking / clearing process into 15l water bottles to let it clear.
Those 15l bottles are easy enough to handle to put into the boiler.

I use a jiggle syphon hose so no sucking required.

ill add to this... i siphon half in the boiler and rest in my still spirits filter and transfer it in that so i can move my boiler half filled and top it up in kitchen when its there

I move my 50L keg around using a simple sack truck. Works a charm and I can safely move it around hot or cold.

+1 on the pick it up and use the built in tap. Mind you it's only a 30L container with 25L wash in it, so not too bad to deal with

I siphon mine from the fermenter to the boiler with gravity using a hose. It’s hard to see the bottom of the syphon need to buy a proper brewers syphon. the hole is raise above the layer at the bottom so it can sit and be steady. the reason though we rack with a syphon not with a pump is because air is bad you don’t want it air rated, we don’t want to mix with layer on the bottom of fermenter don’t pump it don’t have ur hose in the air don’t be greedy let it sit in the bottom of boiler and fill up we want little air and mixing as possible.

Jiggler for me, if it's a big one on the ground then I use a petrol transfer pump designed for barrels and jerry cans.
But if I'm fermenting a wash there's usually plenty of clearance between the tap and the sediment then I just run the tap as long as is it comes out clear.
