my 1380w element is getting old and needs to be changed, 25l boiler. can i change to an 1800w element without having to use a controller and would it be of any advantage besides faster heat up.

Bundy my T500 boiler which is 25L runs 2000W.....I think QLD Andy's runs 2400-2500ish from memory.....both of these sizes work for reflux runs and stripping. Dont know how you'd go with a spirit run though

Its 2200 but from what we have found out at the LHBS its actually 2 elements wired to the 1 on off switch.

Bundy,

Your column is a small one that might struggle with too much heat thrown at it, if it worked well with 1380w I'd stick to that ;)

If you want faster heat up you could install a 2nd element and unplug it once upto running temp :)

Now its getting warmer would putting wash in a car in the sun cut down on heat up time .

there's no problem i just thought that if i have to change element would i go for a bigger one. i will take advice given and stay with 1380w. time is not a problem, at my age it's all nice and slow.
i start warm up at 6am by the time I've had breky things are just about ready to go.
25l reflux run I'm finished by lunch time, stripping run finished by smoko.
