Celery pine

Has anyone branched out into different timbers for different flavours or are their safety concerns that I'm not aware of?
A mate has some celery pine that smells wonderful when cut, I thought if I toasted some up it would release some deeper aromas but are there concerns with this type of wood?

I dont think pine would be nice :think: i may be wrong but it may also be toxic. Have you Googled toxic components of celery pine or something like that?

Yeah - I did google toxicity / celery pine and got very little. Some of the nuts are used in salads at times.
I wouldn't use it if there were any concerns - but I'd be surprised if there aren't other timbers out there worth trying(with due care ) - I guess how do you find out, just because google draws a blank...hmmm
This specialty timber does have such a unique aroma, I'm curious as what flavours would be awaiting toasting/ ageing.
If no one has undertaken this product, I might pioneer a litre and see what happens...

There are very real dangers using woods you are unsure of, some of the most dangerous compounds on earth are contained in certain plant life/wood. Soaking those in a solvent that is destined to be ingested is bad news, I'm on my phone atm but this has already been discussed a few times. Try a search

Ive jsut read a chemical compostition of oak - completely different to pine.
Guess I will be warming myself with some rare timbers in the near future.
Now...gumtree...barrells....
