Oak staves on offer

Postby Stevem109r » Sun Jun 02, 2013 3:09 pm

Fellow forum Members

I have just flat pack a half wine barrel, as pictured below, I am going to cut into about 5-6 inch lengths and then split to about 1in width.

If you would like some as is please let me know, if you would like some after split i will let you know when I'm done cutting.

I am not selling this as I am sure others will help me at times, but you will need to pay postage,

You will need to do the charing toasting yourself.

Steve

I'd love a bit once you've cut it up mate, for various experiments :D

Can you be sure it's safe for use ie. you know what was in it before? If just wine ok, but sometimes they cut them in half for weird shit and end up with chemicals in there...

I can offer some specialty yeasts in exchange ;-)

Looks like French Oak Linny...would be good for anything involving fruit (ie. Brandy), or anyone making red wine at home.

I split it in half, rest was used as a wine rack, it has only had wine in it. As far as I can tell (its not listed on the barrel) it is French oak.

It's a good point, its come up here before about some of the landscape & garden places treating half wine barrels for plants etc with chemicals to stop bugs and white ants and the like so always good to know if it was sprayed with anything before you got it.
