Anyone used plantation rum barrel chips? They advertise they are made from fresh wet barrels, direct from the plantation rum distillery. Going to pick some up to soak in some TPW (yes I will be making rum properly in future now I have a pot, but a man's gotta drink in between runs and ageing :-D ) It would be good to know before I press the button if anyone has found them good, ok, or awful. They look a lot darker than the willards equivalent chips, which is promising in terms of flavour.

Chunks would be better than chips but i cant see an issue using them, might give a weak flavour.

Chips are good for quick colour, but the increased end grain will impart undesirable flavours into your spirit.

Dominoes or bigger 'chunks' are better.

Thought as much, but good to know. No worries, will have to hold out and get a rum wash on asap once I have a couple of gens of CFW finished.

Cheers
