Anyone tried this . I had 1/3 of a bag of desiccated coconut split so I boiled the hell out of it in water and I used the water to dilute some rummy neutral , really quite nice might tip some of the coconut in and leave it for a few weeks see how it turns out Edit clarrify the coconut it has heaps of fat in it , just found out

Hey Croweater - you're right - coconut in this form does contain a lot of fat. You might (if'n ya want) try and get hold of some sun dried copra meal - but only the sundried stuff as the other brown copra has been kiln dried and has a real toasted chocolate smell to it. The sundried stuff looks kinda biscuit colored - Its pretty cheap at about $15/25kg bag at the feed store - the fat content of copra is generally between 6 and 8% whereas the dessicated coconut is round 30% mark going from memory.

I probably wouldn't go that far as to ferment with it, the protein level is up about 22% which means the sugar/starch levels are pretty minimal - actually - water soluble carbs are only 9% and simple sugars are 6% with starch at 1.8%, so you probably wouldn't get that high ABV% in comparison to wheat bran (which is about the same price for 25kg) the wsc (water soluble carbs) are 8.4%, the simple sugar content is 4.8% and the starch content is off the planet at 22.3%, so your return is gonna be way higher - woo hoo!!

Stuff looks like garden mulch to me.

The pigs love it though.

Ive never even considered trying to use either of those as flavourings, however, a stint in the fridge or freezer might solidify the oils or fats enough to be able to scrape them off the top.

Desiccated coconut:just boil it and the fat solidifies on the surface

I've made some great malibu knock off just using white rum and coconut essence, for the price and ease of it I dont think there's a better way :handgestures-thumbupleft:

 Oh man . Anyway thanks for the concern , I woke up quite early and just fine and dandy . I clarified the coconut water by boiling it and letting it cool and removing the fat from the top and then straining it :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I think it needs a full cup of sugar syrup to a litre of neutral as well. You could use liquid glucose but sugar syrup is so cheap & easy to make.
