Got this off another site and it's a bit of a winner:

3 ltr 40%
5 peppercorns,
3 bay leaves,
1 tstp sugar,
lemon zest,
vanilla,
1 teabag,
3-5 cloves.

Leave for ten days, very nice and easy to make.

Recently I have added a little bit of oak but have yet to try it.

Andy, it's bloody good :)

I went to the mother in laws on the weekend, walked in the door and she said " When you went home last time you took that bottle, don't be so tight you should have left it here I lke it"

Luckily I had a couple of bottles in the car to keep her on side :) Only problem is she throws the bottles out when she finishes them, told her again to keep them s I'll see how I go next time we go in to visit.....

Know exactly how you feel Spud, I now tell the select few I gift hooch to that when they bring me the bottle back they can replace it with a full one.

Since I started doing this I've had no problems, so when are you going to bring my bottles back mr spuddley

Maybe we should start placing "bottle recycle" bins around the place.
Or start the AHD bottle recycle centre

Made this one up last night - couldn't find any reference to anything similar on the net

As the recipe was fairly non-specific on some items I made a couple of assumptions and basically ran with the following

3L neutral @ 40%
5 whole peppercorns
3 bay leaves (dried)
1 tsp sugar
Lemon zest from 1 lemon
1-2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 teabag
5 cloves

This morning it has a strong lemon smell - colour looks good

So I'm wondering if I overdid the zest

Anyone else have any experience with this recipe?

Cheers

have made this 6 months ago.very nice for after dinner but would not like to get pissed on it.
in my recipe i have
1 Tbl spoon sugar
1 Tsp lemon zest
1\2 Tsp vanilla extract
2 small pieces oak
leave 10 days strain & bottle, the rest of the recipe is the same as yours.
you may have over done the lemon
hope this helps
the lady's seem to like it with a dash of lemonade.

With all these ingredients like peppercorns bay leaves lemon zest if where put in individual bottles would the end result be different to putting all together in one mix.

Having been fortunate enough to be given a bottle of Spud1700's (remember him??) COGNAC for the wife, I can assure all interested parties that, even when oaked 'a bit', its a real winner. Bloody hell, even I like it and I don't drink such things at all normally. :D

Cognac is distilled white wine aged on oak? Aged Brandy.

I have never heard anywhere of it having spices or flavourings. maybe the recipe should have a name change to stop confusion?

It sounds more like a Gin recipe, but then I've never really made that either.

I think Cognac is a misnomer

My version tastes more like a spiced rum or a herb based beverage eg italian amaro (bitter)

Cheers

Ran two 4l casks of white wine today for two 700ml bottles of 40% how much of each ingredient would ya put per 700ml bottle?

It aint gona age very long and ive already coloured it with a table spoon of treakle, nice colour and sweetness but would like a bit of spice.
