Is there a list

Postby Linny » Sat Nov 10, 2012 9:03 pm

Is there a list of essences that people try and think is close to the actual product ? ... im all for taste testing but limited budget and xmas coming up i want to get it close the first time ... ill taste test later :teasing-tease:

can anyone fill this in as ill be using a double distilled neutral

Captain Morgan
Bundy
Johnnie Walker
Jim Beam
Midori
Vodka
Kalhua

(yes the last two are for black russians :handgestures-thumbupleft: ) Will probably be good to get a recommended list going with brands to help us newbs

Oak chips are ok if your in a hurry for bourbon. You got enough time (just), if your neutral is ready.

Vodka Don't put anything in your neutral and you should have something pretty close to vodka.

Mate, most of these flavours are trial and error.
You are better off buying a few and seeing if you like them.

yeah most of them are too strong so dont be arfaid to dilute em a bit more..
also with the bourbons the majic formula is Neutral 42% + HBS oak chips + a dash of bourbon or whiskey essence :handgestures-thumbupleft:
some are great some are shite i was lucky and got a life time supply of essences at auction when a HBS went bust.
one thing ive learnt is that if it tastes like shit put it to the back of the ageing cupboard it will only improve with age :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft: :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I think thats what im learning now about ageing.... my first batch wasnt too crash hot, fine with coke after the 3rd drink LOL :happy-partydance: , given it two weeks and its starting to come good now. so now im trying to smash out as many runs as possible to get a stock where i can start ageing , and still have drink on tap
