bit more BITE

Postby yetti » Wed Jul 31, 2013 7:54 pm

G'day all, I am new to the forum world and I need some advise. I am using a reflux still and have great results with yield and have a good flavour but I am lacking that extra bite. My product is very smooth which most people like but I like that kick that says get that up ya. I use 9 kg of dextrose and have tried Alcotec 24,48 , pure distilling premium and still yeasts, carbon filtered and not filtered. Can anyone help me get that kick ????? Thanks heaps.

Do you just dump the first 100/200ml and keep the rest of your product?

If so you ain't doing what JayD referring to

I assume you are making a neutral and flavouring?

With this assumption in mind, have you tried de-tuning and running in pot still mode with something like a macwhisky wash... Not sure if it will give you the exact bite you require but worth a shot

And yeah ya gotta do cuts... :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I take the first 100ml and use for window cleaner. still stabilizers at about 79 degrees. after 100mls have been taken of I collect until the temp goes up a full degree then toss the rest. This way is all I have been shown.

Hi yetti, the alcotec yeasts your using are what are called turbo yeasts... Most guys here use TPW or tomato paste wash for neutral spirits you will find it in the tried and proven section of this forum.
What still are you using? If you don't k.ow the make a photo will help us identify it.

not sure what your making here or what you define as kick, but for whiskys to add some mouth feel, depth I add 6 -8 whole black peppercorns to approx. 4.5 - 5lt of flavouring spirit for the first few months. It hits side of tongue and cheeks, but don't over do the corns cos it can over power.

If you mean more alco spirit punch, as the guys have mentioned cuts, and minor step ups in final abv would assist.
