Appearantly all one needs to do for triple sec is hang a orange over a jar of neutral.
So I jammed a ripe orange it the top of a jar and covered with baking paper.
Will report back if it works.

i have done this. its nice, however I find that this results in it tasting like a very very over ripe orange, slightly odd/off.

The "triple" in triple sec refers to the triple distillation required to get the orange flavor through and still end up with a clear distilate

Here is a good video on how triplesec is made

Good video. "...transferred into a copper necked vessel called 'a still'..."

Thanks for the video, should be able to reverse engineer that recipe.
Might drink that neutral before it goes bad and try that maceration instead,
Off to raid sisters orchard tomorrow.

Nup strongly disagree . I have had this a few times with a variety of citrus suspended from string in a sealed jar. Bloody Beautifull and absolutely nothing off about it. I'd imagine you had the jar open and the citrus oxodised. Do it the recommended way with a sealed container and it will sweat the flavour out better than any crap arancello maceration but it does take a long time
PS I haven't seen the link yet and so am responding in defence of a procedure I know for a fact works ;-)
Edit ok now I have and I stand by what I posted as I have done it this way (without triple distilling) and it was maybe half as good as the above mentioned procedure. There is the full method outlined here some where , I'm on my phone otherwise I'd post a link

Too late crow my lorikeets eating the orange and I am drinking the neutral, with less than 24hrs hanging theres a real citrus hit to the neutral (nowhere strong enough but shows it may work) and the oranges skin was soft and seeping flavor.
Will try a bigger jar with a seal crow aswell as the macerations
Thanks.

That's very cool - fairly easy to reproduce too. Adding the orange peel to the wash looks the same as dry hopping a beer - monkeys could do that :) gonna give this a go
