Adding Peat flavour into whiskey.

Postby Boomgate » Thu Oct 10, 2013 2:30 pm

Heya guys, I have been making whiskey using the whiskey chips from the HBS, they make a passable whiskey following the instructions... but I want to add that peaty flavour that scotches have...

Bought one of those "peat smoke flavour" essence bottles, but it has no hints as to how much to use.... Anyone know the amount per bottles?

I would start by adding just a few drops at a time, I imagine it would be very strong and easily overdone... just proceed with caution until you get the desired taste :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Made my own peatreek the other week.
Worked out nice at 1%.

Then added more later as it seemed to loose some of it's taste after a week.

Might be a starting point.

:text-+1: I've tasted stuff with it in before. It doesn't take much and it can be severely overpowering :puke-huge:
