If 'She who must be obeyed' can't find something in the cupboards,my shed is the first place she heads for :laughing-rolling: and my usual come back is "but sweety, you said I could have it" :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: doesn't always work though

Ingredients from a website, but I changed the method a bit

30g Juniper berries
15g Coriander seed
2g Angelica root
2g Cassia bark
2g licorice root
.5 ml almond essence
2g grains of paradise
2g cubeb berries
0.2g lemon rind
0.2g orris root powder

put all in spice grinder and course grind everything
macerate in 1 litre of 45% abv neutral for 24 hrs, add 1 litre of 45% abv before adding to still pot
run through pot still
chuck out first 100 ml
collect all up to 82 deg C
using distilled water ( I used tap water 1st time and it went smoky ) dilute to 42% abv

Edit: Changed method a little coz the experiment continues :geek:

Hey stubs

how was this straight off the maceration ? i dont mind if it's colored

i have some neutral ready to go but don't have a micro still to re-distil it ...

Hi gin heads, I am planning a vapour infused gin. I want something more like gordans than Bomb
ay saphire. Ie more sour.
I have my juniper berries they are dried but smell goodmy question is what ingrediant gives the sour taste in gordans that makes me prefer it to Bombay saphire gin

I'm no guru you need to talk to OD for that level of gin expertise but...

I'd remove most of the citruses and florals and stick with the basic core 4 for a Gordons clone...
Junniper, coriander, angelica root and orris root.

Dill also cos it adds a flatness/dryness. You'll need some citrus..there lies the balancing trick.

btw a vapour infused has a much better flavour imho than soaking...it just has a dryer tasty edge to it.

I know it's an old thread but I'm just starting on the gin. I found a place online that has most of the botanicals for the recipes in this thread, they also have bitter almonds (not extract or oil) which have been hard to find. It's http://www.plantessentials.com.au

Bloke,

being a plate driver you might want to give this some time...

It'll save you hours of cleaning the gin smells out...

Thanks for that bt1, I've already stolen your idea for a section above the PC and I'll also probably knock off one of your recipe's :handgestures-thumbupleft: Thanks for all of your info on gin it has been a real help.

I'm just waiting for the neutral wash to finish fermenting and I'm going to get stuck into it. I was planning on running it through the bubbler once taking cuts and then run it through a second time with the botanicals in the holder so it should just be hearts going through them on the second run.

Sounds dam good to me...

nothing like a gin to express your own flavours...it's a very personal brew...

If you like B.B.S. style gin don't hold back on the florals they really make it.

Let us know how it pans out...very keen on variations and results.
