Yeah I saw that one a while back, I think he makes some good points. The parrot he used was quite large and had a large dead space in the bottom of the alcometer tube, be interesting to see the same experiment on a smaller parrot with minimal dead space.

Mine which is from FSD holds around half of that at most, plus when I can be bothered I use the dump tap.
Plus you see in his comparison of colour charts that jar 2 holds bugger all of the jar before.
and remember that by the time we’re nearing our transition jar, the jar before is already mostly hearts for instance.
I certainly like my parrot and won’t stop using it

It made the alcometer look tiny. He was talking cuts at 500ml which i think is quiet big. I always go on the old saying if in doubt leave it out.

Small parrot will still smear, is the nature of the beast...I am experimenting with eparrot..

Ive been distilling for years, never used a parrot never seen the point to be honest. I strip run straight into a keg, taking samples every 1/2 hour until I reach 20%. Spirit runs I take 300ml cuts and let my nose to the testing.
Parrots look cool but in my opinion they are an optional extra, like buying a car you can have normal windows or tinted windows. At the end of the day they both do the same thing.

I think the best experiment would be to run a wash through a still with very small cuts (less than 100 ml) and a parrot, take note of the jar/s for the heads/hearts and hearts/tails transitions and then tip it all back into the boiler and run it again with very small cuts but without a parrot. Then compare transitions. If you end up with more hearts without a parrot, then don't use it in future. If there's no difference, keep using it.

I would of thought that the way coloured water flows through a parrot would be vastly different to actual alcohol and the different cuts slowly filtering through, but i may be way off... after all i only went to year 10 at school. 8-}

I think the food colouring experiment in the video has some merit but it doesn't really tell you much about the comparison between parrot or no parrot. Plus there's also issues with the design of the parrot.

Not having to have 2 jars setup and having it all come out the same spot would work great... or even just leave tap on to bypass parrot altogether. Top idea. :clap:

I would guess he is dumping every cuts container so it may not be an issue,or maybe on the early and late run containers,what I did like from the vid was the idear ta put a small ball of scrubby in to stop the risk of breaking the alcometer.cheers hillzabilly :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Yeah bluc, drain every cut, gives plenty of time to change cut bottles too while the parrot refills.
