While I'm procrastinating on my stainless bubbler I'm knocking up a pot still for my t500. Have tried and failed miserably at a shotgun condenser so before I throw the whole lot at the wall Ill make a Liebig instead. But don't know how long to make it, it'll be 40mm over 3/4 inch. I have a 700mm piece of 40mm and heaps of 3/4. I can cut up my failed shotgun if I need more 40 mm but do want to have another go some time later.
So, will a 700mm Liebig be ok off a 2000w boiler?
And can a Liebig be vertical? I've only seen them on a slant before? Guess that's to get away from gas fired boilers but I may be wrong.

Another good reason for them being on a slant is that the distillate is in contact with the walls of the cooling chamber for a longer period of time. It should still work vertically but may not be as effective. I am also interested to know what the minimum/ultimate length would be as I will also be building one in the future.

depends on the power you throw at it with length. the longer also can slow if you use a lot of power like blowing through a long straw.

What happened with the shotgun?

was it a solder problem?

might have some advice on fixing it or someone else may. dont give up yet help is all over this place. i had dramas with my RC and my shotgun was alright. post some info and pics and we might sort it out :handgestures-thumbupleft: .

Ahhh, where to start?
Holes were too big, or not round really, couldn't really describe them as holes really, more like the nasty gash we all have had on our knees after stacking a bike
Have the inlet/outlet too close to the ends
Too hot/ heavy handed with the heat
Probably not clean enough, though I was fairly thorough with this
Spilt the flux bottle twice, btw, don't rub your eyes with bakers flux on your hands
After all this I did manage to get it all soldered up with only one pin prick hole, but I wasn't happy with that was I ??? Should have been because when I tried to patch it I made the whole thing into a sprinkler :angry-banghead: :angry-banghead:
So yes, I will give it another go but to avoid a homicidal rampage with a shonky condenser I'll build a Liebig for now.
Built a device to flare the ends of the inner pipes and will use Rumdiddlyums plate flare to create more surface area on the joint.

A leiberg on your t500 at 700mm is heaps. You can get away with about 500 i reckon. Mine is from memory 600 and its very efficient.

liquid flux? sometimes when im soldering if i burn the flux or it wont flow i use my brush and brush more liquid flux over it and it works a treat. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Ooooohhh yeah! Ended up about 680mm long, it's 40mm over 19mm
Sitting in a citric bath for the night and might strip some NGW tomorrow night.
Shouldn't need a sacrificial run if it's bathed first should it?

i would, vinegar and alc run. i always soak in citric for a day or so first also :handgestures-thumbupleft: .
i use fores and feints of feints.
ive kept all mine so my cleaning run stuff has been run a few times

Haha I use the laundry and all my bottles, jars, flagons etc are stored in the spare spare room (along with my fermenters)! The Mrs loves that room... she is always complimenting me on how tidy I keep everything in there and how pleasant it smells :teasing-tease:
On a side note... the Ballantines bottles are great. I use one as my 'current drinker' bottle as its nice and dark so a lot harder for Wifey to gauge how much I've consumed!

:laughing-rolling: I banished myself to the shed, knew it would be divorce if I took over the kitchen or laundry. Am trying to sneak my way back in, have detailed plans of what to do with one of the kids rooms when they move out :laughing-rolling:

Cleaning run with 6L vinegar/ 6L water
Full water on and collecting at 2.7L /hr by my calcs.
As it's on a 2000w T500 boiler I think that's might be a good take off rate for a cleaning run but what does everyone else think? Sound ok?

Half way or so through the maiden run now of a NGW and she's stripping like a beauty, getting around 3.9L per hr. In 1 minute it fills 66ml of the measuring cylinder. 66mlx 60mins =3960ml/hr.
Sounds abit fast but I'm not complaining
