great write up of the recipe :handgestures-thumbupleft:
I have done a few batches of this and its very drinkable as whitedog, but I mainly used it for making blended bourbon whisky if there's such a thing.
I also found that a lower starting SG gave a more concentrated flavor in the end product, probably due to the lesser volume of alcohol, the available flavor doesn't get spread as thinly.
I liked the flavor at a 1.6 starting SG, if the flavor came out too strong one could always dilute it with some good Neutral (which I highly recommend keeping on hand for a myriad of uses)
Initially in my washes I was usually aiming for around 1.08 SG, not realising this.

Good to see plenty of people having success with this wash :) as a relatively new player in this distilling game, I'm amazed that something so tasty can be made out of stuff from the local supermarket :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Does everyone agree this is tested enough to be moved to tried & proven ?

How bout we get Zak to write it up again (perhaps refined) so we can put a clean thread in the TNP section, then rename this as the development thread leaving it here to continue discussions ?
I've never tried the recipe myself, so you lot decide.... but it is nice to have clean info threads to point people to :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Just got the flakes all crushed and mashed today,
looking a little like puke while in the pot haha
yet to start fermenting - ive done only half the recipe
1kg flakes
3.6kg sugar (cbf taking out the 100g to make even 3.5)
23l water.
gonna add the yeast as soon as the temp sits at about 25.
will let you know when it's all done and run ;)

Hi Zac, excellent recipe! Would it be easy enough to use cracked corn from the feed barn in place of Cornflakes, I can get a big bag at good price, and just boil it up as per your recipe, or is that getting into mashing and the like which is a bit more complex?

This thread is devoted to Cornflake Whisky. With your big bag of corn you can do a lot of other things. But you can't make cornflake whisky with it.
What you can do is make another tried and true recipe called Macs BWKO
http://www.aussiedistiller.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=6or you could just use corn and make an Uncle Jessies, which is also very tried and proven. But, look around mate, corn aint cornflakes.

Could soak it for a few days then throw the bag under a 14T drum roller, yeh! that'd work for corn flakes :teasing-tease:

I had always thought the corn had to be steamed then rolled then toasted to make corn flakes
...now that's a bloody complicated drum roller design... Coates hire u reckon? :D

You have to take into account that cornflakes do have added sugar as part of the manufacturing process.
This will certainly have an effect in the fermentation - the same is not the case in stright corn

Cornflakes also have vitamins added, which also help in fermentation...
