Just curious, do you strip using a de-tuned pot still?

Not quite sure what you mean by de-tuned pot still? I run a simple pot with a liebig condenser, then run through the bubbler with 4 plates, hope that clears it up for you :handgestures-thumbupleft:

:-B sorry, detuned, from my reading means that the potstill body is empty - no copper or SS mesh or any other 'copper or Stainless' saddles or whatever's in it! Just like an empty tube....

Thats it :handgestures-thumbupleft:

so when you do a Whisky or Rum, your potstill is just an empty tube  I've been reading about them being filled with copper and SS mesh...
What's that then?? Feeling somewhat foolish now.

Packed section is for neutral spirits, reflux or plate stills, it helps strip flavour from the vapor. .

Very off topic here but yeah your probably getting confused with detuned reflux stills being run as a pot have you read this?

If it's an all stainless steel pot still you may want a little copper packing in the vapour path.
If the pot still is constructed of copper pipe than the copper packing isn't necessary :text-offtopic: :text-offtopic:

I first tried doing single runs, nothing wrong with it. Watched Doc's vid and decided to strip then run, this way seems to age quicker and a little better IMHO, also doing a decent sized spirit run I can fill a 5L demi in one go. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

You said you were going to strip and run through 4 plates?
From memory I think Doc strips and runs through 2 or 3.

I hate for you to lose your hard earned flavour.

in his single malt video he stripped and used 4 plates. not sure if he changed his method since then as its an old video. Dont post the link though, the links not allowed due to the equipment being used. good video though

So if you took 300mL cuts you have 12.6L, whats the ABV?

Didn't do all 300ml cuts, I take 200ml cuts close to end of heads and start of tails, ran out of small jars at the end and used a couple of 500ml jars.
Total collected 11L= 9.5 @ 92% last 3 jars are definitely tails, haven't tested them yet, had a quick sniff this morning, Im going to get at least 5-6L @65% maybe even a little more. :D

6.5L @ 65% :D now comes the fun part. Waiting :crying-blue: the white dog smells pretty good, put 5L on 2 American medium toast dominoes, 1.5L on 1, this was watered down to 65% with some very clean spring water, the 5L with bottled water.

I am using fresh for this, once it gets some age I will break down into smaller bottles and use some dominoes that have been in port for 6 months in 1 and use something else in the others.
