Border Brewing Wheat Vodka Recipe - anyone tried this?

Postby nickT » Mon Apr 17, 2023 8:44 am

Hi All,

Has anyone tried the all grain Wheat Vodka recipe from the Border Brewing website?

https://www.borderbrewing.com.au/collec ... dka-recipe

Basically 56% Wheat malt, 27% Distillers Malt, 14% Big-O malted oats, and 3% Sour Grapes malt.

If so, how did it turn out? (I like the idea of wheat and oats, given the nice mouthfeel I have had from oats in AG beer brewing, but I am brand newbie to distilling).

I havent tried THIS exact recipe but ive done one pretty much identical.

Not much to go on because its double distilled and the 2nd run is a complete reflux strip.

Looks an interesting recipe. I have been working on similar (but simpler - just malted wheat and distillers malt) but have been getting pretty poor conversions (SG ~1.05). Am currently still experimenting to work out what I am doing wrong. The taste is good though.

I was also wondering if it is really necessary to used malted wheat, if you have malted distillers malt in there, and add some enzymes..... here unmalted wheat is particularly inexpensive, but at the same time I am hoping for a quality outcome, not necessarily a cheap outcome. So happy to buy malted if that is going to make a difference.
