Lime/Sugar Wash

Hello,

No flames please. I'll run it and see how it goes.

Put this down on Sunday and as at 8:00pm 2 days later it's at 990 and stopped major bubbling. Sorry I didnt get the starting SG.

In a 30L fermenter(approx!!!)..

5kg White Sugar(Woolies)
2kg Limes belted up with blender, put into a pot and boiled for about 30mins off and on
Topped up to about 25-26L with heads of cold water
1tbsp Epsom
4tbsp DAP
1tbsp Gypsum
About 1/5 to 1/4 jar of Lowans(whatever I had left)
** WATCH THE FIZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
About 1/2 cup of Bicarb to lower PH so it doesnt take years to ferment

Fermentation Odour: Very nice, nothing like a turbo and no aeration of house necessary. Smells like limes. Awesome.

Taste Test after reaching 990 - Not bad, nothing too untoward in the flavours.

Running it over the weekend after it clears, I will let you know how it goes!

And a reminder - dont be a dick(no flames). Will run it and see how it goes with a McStill 2" Boka on the weekend.

Interesting experiment - my only comment would be the pith in the lime might add an amount of bitterness you don't want but the stilling might take care of that whilst possibly adding to flavour in the long run.

I wonder what the citrus oils will be like in the spirit...look forward to a report back after the run, sounds like my cup of tea for sure.

Vodka infusions work pretty well with citrus.

did you loose alot of the citrus taste from the fermentation? That would be what I would be looking at.

Always good to try any way

Haven't heard of this wash before, good on you for experimenting. How are you going to run it? I assume your aiming for a neutral with slight citrus taste?

If you are running it thru a Boka, try not to strip too much flavour from it ;-)

I would double run it through a pot still ;-)

I had great results with a citrus wash last year through my bubbler, also with a lemon & molasses wash that turned out bloody awesome.

Hey Sam_and_liv,

I'm not sure, it fermented on the kitchen table. I'm in Brisbane, and it's been obviously rainy/wet here but I suspect 25-29oC here outside temp and about 30+ inside. To be honest, I didnt pay enough attention, never hit 34+. I will next time. Stupid brisbane heat.

It was nice and quick :-) I saw another run from somebody else to did 4TBSP of DAP as well and got it around 7days cleared!

If I can be honest on the taste, it tastes like a very dry lime citris wash, thats about it...... What I like is zero bite, very smooth.

I would have guessed it was around 35.
