Hi Guys,

Just a quick one? Is there any real reason you pitch the yeast on last ?

I accidently was in auto-pilot mode when making this wash of TPW (made about 10 now and never looking back) and poured in the yeast at same time as sugar, citric etc.

Its been 2 weeks and done everything normal while gassing, is sitting about 0.95 on the gravity and 7% Alc.

Only thing ive noticed so far thats been a difference is, hasnt cleared very well?

Is there any harm done to this batch or anyone know the reasoning behind pitching yeast last ?

Thanks guys!

My understanding has been that you do it last in order to be able to us hot water to disolve the ingredients. You then pitch the yeast when the wash temp is in the yeasts preferred range. That's it...

I shoot for mid to low 30s on pitching then just let it go where it wants , no blankets or heaters .

An introduction in the welcome centre is customary for the first post ;-)

Also I assume you are talking about the temp you are fermenting at or the temp you are running your still at? Or are you trying to bake a cake with it?

I can't think of anything enjoyable that you could make by cooking it with TPW...
This cooking idea is all a bit strange, who gave you the idea to cook with TPW?

I would love to give this recipe a go. Could someone tell me the mix ratio for a TPW 40L batch please ? Do you wait for the fluid in the air lock to stop bubbling ( yeast stops working ) before distilling. I started reading through the 50 pages of this thread but did not find the answer.

for 5 L:

1kg sugar
40g tomato paste
16g yeast

(x8 if you want to end up with 40L of wash):
8kg sugar
320g tomato paste
yeast ~100g (doesnt need to be scaled exactly)
top up to 40L

finisihed when co2 develpment stops or gravity lesst than 0.995

Looking to change from turbos to tpw and wondering if my 30ltr pure distilling reflux still will be adequate to use?
