Following the right way to do a run with T500

I followed the process on here for a run with T500... said to put water on flat out and wait for first drops... round 42c. Then collect 150ml and throw... then collect with water flat out... when drops slow down slowly turn water off u til temp gets up to about 60c.

Well I had the boiler going for 1.5 hours with water on flat out... it was boiling it’s tits off but did not get above 31.5c.
I ended up slowly turning water off..... I’m sitting here running at 46.3c and have collected maybe 1L.......

Don’t k ow if I did something wrong...

Your water might be colder than mine was or more pressure.
Aim for my eloquently phrased dribble dribble drip out put speed and your on the money.
The t500 is not the fastest rig out there but does ok

Pist n broke does your still have 2 temp gauges or just 1?
the way i run my still is first, run it till the bottom gauge reaches 60c (this should only take about a hour to boil)
then i turn water on (not full tit either) otherwise it will cool the still down too quick,( have a look on youtube if you don't have the instruction manual on how to set up the water flow using the needle tap that comes with the still.)
if your still is older like mine the top temp gauge will go up past 75c before you will start seeing any liquid coming out, the bottom gauge you can run anywhere between 55 & 65c but slower the better so as close to 55c as possible.
on youtube it says take the first 100ml of & through i take 150 to 200ml off then you start doing your cuts from there, all up from when you first turn the still on till the end of the run should take 5 to 5 1/2 hours. i hope this helps mate :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Sorry mate but that’s crap advice.
The reason I posted my thread about running a t500 the proper way was to get people to understand that controlling your still by temperature is wrong and most importantly, what still spirits and YouTube show is also wrong.
On any still you should always have some water flowing through your pc AT ALL TIMES, this is a safety issue and something that we at Aussiedistiller are avid about. End of story.
There is also the principle that as the t500 has a combined rc and pc water inlet that insufficient water flow through the rc will not result in adequate reflux and will give you a run that is smeared with heads.
I might not have mastered my bubbler fully yet but I am damn sure I mastered the t500 before giving it away.
Sorry to be so blunt freerocketman but I truely feel that the shit you find on YouTube for most stills, especially the still spirits t500 is not only wrong but down right unsafe.
They’re not going to back you up when your shed or house burns down.
Rant over

You may have been running it too slow.
1L/hr is a slow rate but you were doing 500mL/hr....

Should taste good but.

100%, first thing to go on last to go off, not something to muck around with

Ok.... I got to 3.5L at 93% and time was near;y midnight and it was still going.... still smelt great.... I turned it off....
Before people bag me... I used turbo8kg.... yes I have to try TPW.... anyway I hooked everything up and turned tap on full and it started boiling after about an hour.... but about 1 your after that it was still only 32c.... only a few little drops came... then I slowly turned water down until it came up to 40c.... there it started to drop drop dribble.. drop drop and I collected 150ml and three... then collected the rest over a 6.5hour period.... it did come out good... very sweet....
I am running it through a charcoal filter now.... watered it down to 40% and scored about 9L.

I didn’t have a water ricuculation system so was coming out of tap and then via a hose onto the lawn.. I have to go to buntings and get a pump... pump up to condenser and let it drop back into bucket.....

Did I stuff it up ?

Your outgoing water temp should be around the 55deg mark on a spirit run

Just reading this as I am doing the same thing - water on high flow rate and struggle to get any output. Kept dribble minimal to about 175ml then reduced water to move temp up to 50-55 and a better flow. I need to go to bed st some point tonight!!!!!!

Not real sure what your asking but more water through your condenser will equal less alc out put (and lower water out temp) because the water is colder as it rushes through the condenser and condensing the vapor and it falls back down your column. If you want more alc output turn your water down so it doesn't condense as much vapor but make sure the still doesn't get too hot or it will melt the plastic.

The T500 isn't a fast still unfortunately.

Forget about the temp, just look for the dribble dribble drip.

Been focusing on the dribble.... Running nicely now and tasting good but think I’m in for a late one....

And whoever suggested stubbies to collect cuts is a visionary... Was collecting all sorts of glass containers then realised I can gather stubbies much quicker... :happy-partydance:

The best advice I could give anybody regarding the T500 is to run everything twice.
Strip 2 wash's then spirit run the lot.
You'll love the results :handgestures-thumbupleft:

And there you go...... experience it all yourself
My T500 didn't run the same as what everyone said but taking all the advice in and just doing it yourself will put you in good stead.

Once up to temp and producing my sweet spot was anywhere between 55 to 60 deg c
toward the end i pushed it higher.

Go straight to the TPW it is awesome!

doing a run tomorrow morning as I have a TPW ready to go.

And yes it takes 6hrs! but hey its worth it when u start drinking your own :obscene-drinkingdrunk:

OH
