Hi everyone. Was planning on installing a viewing window in my new 25 litre drum I got from supercheap & was wondering what type of sealant to use. Was thinking aquarium sealant would be ok since it doesn't kill fish once it's cured.

Was planing on gluing it into the lid after cutting a hole out. Sealant on the outside of the lid.

Thoughts?

Selleys aquarium silicone I wont use any other type I have tryed other brands but had bad luck

put it in your lid with no silicon and leave out the airlock the pressure will escape around the hole as long as its tight enough to just slide in but not that tight it will blow off from pressure build up just slipping over is fine. You will want to run the washes within a week of finishing though but I have even left a beer with gladwrap top on for 2 and a half weeks after it was done and turned out fine so sugar wash should be fine :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Then ditch the lid and use a bit of glad wrap over the top of the fermenter like I and a few others do. Instant window :handgestures-thumbupleft:

It will find its way out. Plenty of people use that method without problems.

I think that the gladwrap itself is slightly permeable so that it will be able to escape over time anyway.

It works it's way out but if you are worried then a pin prick hole in the glad wrap works as well. I just take the rubber seal out of the lid and use that to secure the glad wrap.
