I dare say this has been covered before but because on the
Common words its a pain to find and most newbies
Like myself would think the same thing as yanky

Now for the question.

With new mason jars they all have some sort
Of rubber seal on them I guess they arnt to
Suitable for the use we want how is the best way
To remove the rubber or when it comes to the
Clip jars what is the best seal for them apart
From the rubber one. Cork yes but we're do people
Find then that arnt full of shity bad gule.

If its the jars with the clip that holds the lid on you can just turn them upside down.

we aren't smarter than anyone.. we're just ppl. Mash Rookie @ HD as an example has forgotten more stuff that 6 of us here would know together.

For the clip wire closure jars why bother to seal. The lid is a fairly good fit, you won't loose much bugga all in fact. I've stored for 18 months this way and reckon the slight oxidation is a good thing.

No stupid questions when it comes to storing and keeping good quality hooch.

Mason Jars that just have a screw on lid, I would not worry about the tiny bit of rubber or whatever they have on the lid. It is such a tiny percentage of the product your storing and unless you are periodically shaking your jars then it is only a minuscule amount of product that is going to come in contact with it.

For the jars with a hinged lid and metal clip, again the amount of your product that is going to come in contact with the seal is negligible. If you are really concerned you could make a seal from silicone baking sheets from Big W, or if you want to use cork look for natural cork, you just want to make sure it is glue free. It can be found, at music stores or online/eBay.

Personally I agree with bt1. Remove the seal and the small amount of airing will be good for your hooch.

KMart and Big W sell these jars in 1 ltr and 1.5 ltrs for $2 with a silicon seal :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I also agree with bt1 though...slight evaporation is a good thing for your ageing spirits and tends to let out some of the shit you don't want to be in there anyway.

Mason jars really cheap
