so, introductions eh.....

well Im a newby to the whole brewing thing, very fresh off the boat...
I live in Nth Qld so we have the heat & humidity to contend with up here...
I chose to do some distilling because of several reasons,

1: I am unable to drink store bought alcohol due to having a reaction where I wish to tear my own skin from my face & neck. I wanted to see if I was able to drink home made stuff, and the answer to that is a resounding YES... a very happy girl here :)

2: as I have just given up smoking I needed a hobby and this seemed like a good way to keep my hands and mind busy..

& 3: was looking for a way to save some $$$ for the hubby, and to keep him alive as he was buying home made spirits and ended up with a good dose of methanol poisoning.

As I have just started out, I have begun with the basics to see if it was something I could do, so I have an Air Still, and am slowly upgrading things as I go along....

I have been having a ball and heaps of fun and plan on keeping on having fun.. When it becomes too serious, its time to chuck it in.. :)

So, I guess I'll say G'day and I'll be seeing you around the forums, cause I ask lots of questions.. ;)

Welcome,
Sorry to hear about the poinsioning and im glad it wasn't more serious.
There is much information to trawl through in the newbies corner to start with.

Do you know what exactly you are allergic to, one of the colours or preservatives maybe?

No doubt once you get the hang of the airstill you will be looking at a 2" pot with a larger boiler and so on as the interest grows.

Welcome :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Our biggest concern here is safety, following the advice here will ensure you never go anywhere near poisoning yourself.

G-day FB welcome to the fold ,gotta laugh most seem ta have a love hate relationship with booze,if I smell southern comfort it makes me puke ,tearing of skin sounds like your on another level, but Iam sure you will get ya head around distilling ,plenty of us including me started with the humble air still,we could do with a few more ladies on board as well ,it will only improve our site and community.cheers hillzabilly :handgestures-thumbupleft:

sorry for the delay in replying peoples,, :)

to answer your question scythe

Im totally in the dark about what it could be, we thought it might have been colours/preservatives and started keeping a running tally on what had what numbers but pretty soon nothing seemed to match and I would react with everything. :obscene-drinkingdrunk:

undertaker: Im from The Ville (Townsville).

So thanks for the welcome everyone, I've already had a bit of a learning curve by not throwing out the first bit of foreshot - now thats made for some awesome headaches.. lol...

and yes, Im already starting to look at ditching the airstill and going to the bigger/better pot stills.. lol..

Even Cairns looks like Brownsville at the moment. Starting to think about a raindance.

Welcome freckle

Is your reaction a burning sensation and then you feel like you're overheating?
My wife gets something like this called Asian Flush/Alcohol Flush
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol_flush_reaction
It's completely random with her, sometimes it will happen, other times it won't
Luckily for her she doesn't really drink much anyway

Also not to alarm you or anything but it can also be associated with cancer...
