Hi from ACT

Hi all. Mitch from the ACT. I used to homebrew back in the early 2000s and I've begun an appreciation for whiskey drinking, so I thought I'd do some research into the making of whiskey. It's fascinating! So I'll probably lurk around and soak up knowledge before dipping into the whiskey making pool.

My previous homebrew was all about the beer. Never progressed past LME, but it was a lot of fun. I only got into drinking spirits about 18 months ago, but I'm making up for lost time.

Welcome to AD Mitch.

There's a lot of information throughout the site on making whisky/whiskey. Take your time with your research and feel free to ask questions if you can't find answers for anything. The advanced search link at the top right of the page is the best of the 3 search options for finding answers.

Things to consider whilst you do your research are: what kind of budget you have, off-the-shelf or DIY, how much room you have to do your stilling in (consider area and ceiling height), how much time you can devote to stilling, and also if you just want to make whiskies/brown spirits or if you think you might want to make vodka or gin etc as well. These will all have a bearing on what type of still you'll need.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

Welcome Mitch,

You have done the wise thing by coming here first. I made the expensive mistake by going to the HBS and spending a crap load of money on stuff that didn't make what I wanted to make. After months of frustration I found this mob who have set me on the right path to distilling glory.

Cheers :handgestures-thumbupleft:
