An image for the naysayers out there. Now, I just need to clean the copper mesh and get things hooked up.

Guess you are doing a sacrificial run Saturday and a stripping run of WBAB on Sunday

*Fat Bastard's Voice* Mayyyyybeeeee... :) That's loosely the plan Wellsy

I ended up using my TPW wash through the T500 reflux to see how it went as a comparison to the Turbo stuff. I don't know if the hydrometer is accurate, but it came out at 96%!

Still need to soak the copper mesh, put it in the pipe, and setup the water system. I have had a busy week with a lot of distractions. Hoping to get this all ready tomorrow.

Might have to run some cask wine or something through it for the sacrificial run, followed by the WBAB wash.

Could I just add some wine to my left over TPW for this purpose? Just going to be chucked in any case.

PS the team down at Grain & Grape were really good to deal with and very helpful. Thanks for recommending them.

Putting some cask wine with the tpw will be fine mate. Throw in the cuts that did not make it as well if you don’t have enough.
Once you start this you can’t stop the hobby is worse than pringles lol
Have a great weekend :)

so got the Water reticulation system working and gave the pot still a run with the left over TPW wash + 2x wine casks.

No leaks, and everything seemed to work ok. I ran the still without the copper mesh in stripping mode. Seemed to take a while. Water lines stayed nice and cold.

How long should it generally take to do a stripping run with a 2400W boiler on a 25L wash?

Hey stillts,
I run a 2” pot on a 2000w boiler at the moment and it takes around 2
1/2 hours from start to finish. I’d imagine 2400w should be a little quicker.

I’m no expert by any means but it depends on the alcohol content of the wash and how far you strip it down to. My strip runs start around 60 % and I strip down to 20% which gives me about 40% of stripped product that I can add with other stripped runs. Probably end up with around 5 to 6 litres from a 23 ltr boiler charge.

Third one down will give you a ball park, for a strip, put the output abv at 30 to start with until you work out how your doing things.

Go deeper than what hick said for flavoued washes, good target for neutral.

Going to 10% is fine. It’s really a personal choice weighing up is it worth the effort and cost of power to get that little bit extra. I find going down to 20% works for me but as RC says, go a bit further for flavoured washes.

Just finished my first spirit run, and my first time at cuts and fractions. Went pretty well. Turned the boiler off at 20% ABV.

Will let it sit for a couple of days as per Kiwi's article on this process, and work out what goes in and what gets recycled.
