Hi everyone,

I've been interested in learning about distilling for years and have finally decided to dive into the hobby. I'm still in the research-phase, so I can work out what setup will best suit my needs and budget. No distilling equipment as yet (lots of tasting equipment though).

This forum looks like a really good place to learn the basics and develop skills. Lots of really helpful people willing to share their experience, with enough patience to help a newbie that might ask some silly questions :angry-banghead:

Thanks for letting me join.

Cheers
PSF

The first question is always What do you want to drink ?
From there we can formulate a plan
Enjoy the ride

Welcome PSF

Been down that exact path myself and can testify you have come to the right place. As Stig said the first challenge is to work out what you want to drink first. That then will guide you to the type of still you need, pot or reflux, then volumes and future expansions etc.

Ask lots of questions as we have all been there. There are some really knowledgeable people on here and they are always willing to share that knowledge without making us asking the questions feel dumb.

Enjoy the journey mate as it can be a fantastic hobby. If only they had taught this sort of science when we were at school lol

Hi PSF
Lots of fun and lots to learn.
I have the FSD 2" Boka and pot. If you are looking for a low budget option that produces good quality spirits (albeit slowly) see the link below about my set up.

Welcome PSF

You journey down the rabbit hole begins!

I did research before diving in, albeit in the wrong places ffs….

My biggest regret is buying a swear word (005 obruT) and not investing the money spent on that purchase into the set up I have now.

Whatever you decide, enjoy the ride

G'Day PSF :handgestures-thumbupleft: and welcome to the forum mate :handgestures-thumbupleft:

You will find here one has many options and a heap of learning info to read, now if one is a handyman have a read of the soft soldering tutorials to get an insight of working with copper which will infact become a life long addiction :laughing-rolling:

Now a 2" copper pipe with a easy flange will fit straight onto a 50 litre keg which can be heated by a crab burner so a 2" pot still can made cheaply to get started then the option to buy a still or just feed that addiction that is getting hold you everytime you think of making that special drop.

when making that special drop mate the world is your oyster :laughing-rolling: on how you go about it and the fact you made all this yourself makes it that much better but remember a 5 Star bubbler is still porn if one wants to go that way.

Cheers Bryan
