Hi, I'm Martin from Sydney and I finally got around to doing a run...
Made a small brown (not raw) sugar wash - 1Kg sugar in 5L water + DAP and bread yeast. Fermented for 2 weeks at 30C and then....

Tossed the first 50ml and diluted the rest to about 40% for adding to a stripping run later.

Welcome Martin

That looks suspiciously like a 8l aldi coffee urn. I have one put aside for what your doing now. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

However....
Okky straps really arnt going to help the boiler lid achieve a decent seal. I hate to say it, but some flour paste will get you going while you work out a better solution (my current plan is a 4" or 6" ferrule on the lid and soldering the lid in permanently)

I would be blanking off the holes for the liquid level and ditching it, plastic and booze aint good especially when you load it with 40%.

Ideally you would have a power controller after setting the thermostat to max, you cant run a boiler by temperature and the power control will be needed for spirit runs.

Put some tape over that thermometer, you don't need to know your vapour temperature and it will just distract you from learning to run your still properly.

And one more, if you had to dilute it to 40, you didn't strip far enough :D
