Minimum low wines volume for gin

Postby JimS » Mon Feb 06, 2023 8:31 am

Hi all,

I have 7.5L of all grain (wheat) neutral at 40% and I'm going to do a gin run next weekend. Ideally I'd like to split the neutral into two separate gin runs, so I can try a couple of different recipes (as this is my second ever gin run). My setup is a 35L digi-boil boiler with a 2" boka still setup, which I will obviously run in pot mode.

Is it feasible for me to split 7.5L @40% into two runs with this setup, or am I asking for trouble? My thinking is I either have to dilute the neutral down pretty heavily (say to 15%) or run pretty low volumes in the still at say 30%. I'm not sure if either of these will result in a poor outcome? I've gone to a fair bit of trouble to make the neutral, so I really don't want to trash it in the final gin run.

Any advice/suggestions would be welcome.

Hi Jim,
Since this is your first post I moved it here to the welcome area.
Now, since the digiboil has an enclosed element yiu can realistically do a 1L run if you wish.
Cheers

Thanks for the feedback. That's great news. I'll split it into two batches then.....that'll give me 2 x 5l pot still runs at 30%.

i've done a couple of 4l runs in a brewzilla without any problems, one advantage of concealed ULWD elements.

I dont use low wines but finished spirit for gin otherwise you lose flavour when you do your cuts..
