Still virgin

Say Hi and introduce yourself

Still virgin

Howdy all.
Have been brewing all grain beer for a few years now for quality rather than price motives.
I'm now keen to get into stilling some quality whiskey and obviously have a lot to learn as I've never made spirits before.
Have no equipment yet, but figure I will start with a 2" pot still with a keg boiler, as I already have a good burner for brewing.
Would like to go with a modular set up which I can maybe add to when I get a bit more advanced, so any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Notice a few familiar names from brewing websites so I'm obviously not the only brewer who has decided to expand their scope of operations.
Look forward to learning a lot from this site.

Welcome mate :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I would say you already have a lot of the gear from beer brewing, just need some spirit related items and your set ;-)

Welcome, I've been running one of Macs modular stills. You could start with the pot part and then add the plate sections and packed sections as you want.

Welcome, your brew skills and gear will make it an easy transition. It might ruin you on brewing as it did for me:-)

Do you love the time it takes to do all grain though?

I do it for the love of making good quality beer. The process is just as much fun as drinking the end product. Then there's the fun of building a brewery as well.
I can brew around 70L of wort in around six hours which will last me 6-8 weeks. As I keg I also save a lot of time not having to bottle.
I have ambitions of making whiskey using all grain wash so if I didn't love all grain brewing I probably wouldn't want to get into distilling.
I am a bit of a glutten for punishment though.

It won't take as long to do a whisky all grain wash, no need for boiling or hops etc.
