Hi from Vic

G'day from Geelong,

Been reading the site(s) for about a week and thought I'd register. Looks like a good forum.

I'm an absolute novice distilling on an Ultra Pure reflux still (bokakob design?) for all of 2 minutes.

Moved from brewing beer to "essential oils". It is the good oil and I find it essential, so I guess what I distill qualifies.

Al the best,

Welcome stilly_bugger

glad you enjoy the site

i dont know how the ultra pure runs but they are a good looking still and i reckon they would go well based on the design :)

once you a few runs give us some feedback about it if you will please

you using turbo's or trying a few "home made based" washes ?

Turbos, though I might go with a few more basic mixes after reading around here. I'm one of those people who love to boast about how cheap they can make the stuff, and how good it tastes. But at the moment I'm trying to build up a drinking stock and time is of the essence. It seems to be coming out pretty good. Only pulled an 88% ethanol mix first go on 21lt, 6kg sugar and Turbo wash. Few more washes in the works at the moment.

By the way, what do people use their "heads" for? Seems like a waste to throw away ~150ml methanol each run.

Fore shots have many great uses around the home and garden, I use mine for weed killer or in the washer/wiper bottle in my car ;)

Squeaky clean windscreen in the morning that smells like rum

G'day Stilly
Welcome to the forum. The first 100-150 ml you throw away is called the fore shots, I keep mine in an old metho bottle and use it the same way.
